The Bread of Life

Ask yourself what is being produced in your life today? What is coming from your daily actions, thoughts, and motives? Is the product positive or negative? Do these things add or remove value to your life? Are your actions worldly or pleasing to the Lord?

We are extremely busy people, so in our lives, there are bound to be ups and downs in our faith. Yet, there is no better feeling than being on fire with God. Being consistent in reading your Bible, praying each morning and night, and being in constant worship with the Lord is such an amazing feeling. Inadvertently, failing to be consistent with our faith can make us feel far from God. Often, when we aren’t talking to God as we should, we find ourselves wrapped up in anxious thoughts. We’re constantly wondering, “What’s next?” or “What now?” Despite busy schedules, long nights, and unexpected circumstances, it’s super important that we prioritize our relationship with the Lord. Let’s take a look at our relationship with God from the perspective of an appetite.

Your appetite is the natural desire to satisfy a need or craving. On average, the human body needs 2 sustainable meals a day to stay healthy. To that same angle, make it your goal to have 2 interactions with God each day. This can be done in numerous ways. Try new things with the Lord. If we read scripture twice a day, call on the Lord twice a day, or simply say “Thank You” to God, we will begin to notice a shift in our appetites. Staying curious about God can only benefit us. The more we seek Him, the more natural it will become to implement this process in our everyday lives.

In multiple instances in the Bible, we see Jesus feed the 5,000 with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Jesus does this in John 6:5-13. After feeding these men, Jesus explains that as long as we believe in the works of Jesus Christ, we will be given the bread of life. We will never go hungry or thirsty because God has given His Son this gift, and He has given this gift to us. Jesus clearly tells us that He Himself is the bread of life, and whoever draws near to him will never be hungry or thirsty. Turn over to Jesus today, and watch how you naurally began to crave a stronger relationship with the Lord.

Concluding Thoughts

Your spiritual appetite is just as important (if not more) than your hunger for things of this world. Continue praying, worshiping, and seeking the Lord, and watch how your life drastically improves.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the opportunity to see yet another beautiful and blessed day. Each and every day is a brand new opportunity to dwell in Your presence and praise Your mighty and gracious name. Today, Lord, we are starving for Your word. We are actively seeking You, and we want You to fill us with the bread of life. By practicing virtues such as prayer, obedience, love, kindness, and patience, we will continue to work our way toward eternal life. Throughout the Bible, we’ve seen you feed the five thousand not once, but a multitude of times. Let us not be amazed by the mere material, but by the blessings themselves. You’re a miracle worker, Lord. We ask that You continue to walk with us, lead us, and stand by us. Allow us to turn to the ways of You, Lord, for we know if we do, we will automatically desire the Bread of Life, Lord. Thank You for what has already been written (John 6:6). Amen!

Devotional Summary

  • The more I talk to God and present my request unto him, the quicker my appetite will regulate to hunger for the Lord. The more I stray away from reading my Bible and praying, the easier it will be to have an appetite for things of this world.
  • Jesus is the Bread of Life; if you seek him, you will never go spiritually hungry.
